Working Structure Fire

Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 3:53 PM:

Engine 50 and Battalion 50 responded as part of a first alarm assignment for a working structure fire south of Newton. The first alarm assignment also included mutual aid units from Clarkston, Trenton, Lewiston and Cache County Fire.

Engine 50 arrived to find smoke coming from the residence and initiated an interior attack. The fire was in a utility closet where the water heater was located and Engine 50's crew made a quick knockdown.

The fire had extended into the attic space and the mutual aid companies joined in overhaul of the fire area by opening the walls and ceiling and removing insulation. When overhaul was complete mutual aid companies were released. Engine 50 remained on scene until an investigation was completed by Cache County Fire at which time the occupants were allowed back into the home.

Two occupants of the home suffered smoke inhalation and were treated on scene by Ambulance 160. No other injuries were reported and the patients did not require transport. The cause of the fire was mechanical, originating with the water heater.
