Vehicle Crash

Monday, December 18, 2017 at 3:25 AM:

Squad 50, Engine 50 and Ambulance 160 were called to assist with a single vehicle crash in Cache Junction.

Fire and EMS staged in the are because the occupant of the vehicle fled on foot and had not been located. Law enforcement and Ambulance 160 remain on scene wile the search for the driver continues, Squad 50 and Engine 50 have been released.

Working Structure Fire

Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 3:53 PM:

Engine 50 and Battalion 50 responded as part of a first alarm assignment for a working structure fire south of Newton. The first alarm assignment also included mutual aid units from Clarkston, Trenton, Lewiston and Cache County Fire.

Engine 50 arrived to find smoke coming from the residence and initiated an interior attack. The fire was in a utility closet where the water heater was located and Engine 50's crew made a quick knockdown. 

The fire had extended into the attic space and the mutual aid companies joined in overhaul of the fire area by opening the walls and ceiling and removing insulation. When overhaul was complete mutual aid companies were released. Engine 50 remained on scene until an investigation was completed by Cache County Fire at which time the occupants were allowed back into the home. 

Two occupants of the home suffered smoke inhalation and were treated on scene by Ambulance 160. No other injuries were reported and the patients did not require transport. The cause of the fire was mechanical, originating with the water heater.

Saturday, Nivember 4, 2017 at 12:38 PM:

Engine 50, Battalion 50 and 3A220 responded to a utility pole fire south of Newton. The top of the pole had burned through causing the cross arm to fall, resulting in a power outage for Newton and the surrounding area.

Rocky Mountain Power responded and when the damaged pole was isolated, power was restored to most of the effected homes.

Engine 50's crew extinguished the remaining fire at the top of the pole and returned to station.

Brush 50 and Brush 51 responded to a request for mutual aid at a grass fire endangering a structure in Petersboro. Units from Mendon, Wellsville, Newton and Cache County were mopping up the burned area when a second fire was reported further south in Petersboro. Brush 50 remained at the first incident while Brush 51 went to assist at the second fire.

Utility Problem with Grass Fire

Brush 50, Brush 51, Tender 50, Tender 52 and units from Cache County Fire responded to a power pole down at the intersection of SR 142 and 7000 West. The downed power lines ignited the grass along the road, burning towards a grain field on one side and hay barns on the other. 

Crews stopped the progression of the fire along the edges of the road then waited for the power company to disconnect the line for final mop up. Rocky Mountain Power restored service to Newton and Clarkston at approximately 11::00 PM.

Engine 50, Batallion 50 and 3A220 responded to a report of a small hay bale on fire in the road at an address north of Newton. 

Bench Grass Fire

Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:00 PM:

Brush 50, Brush 51, Tender 50 and Batallion 3A responded to a grass fire burning in the hillside above Newton Reservoir. It was reported that the fire was growing rapidly, prompting a special call for two additional brush trucks. A short time later the full second alarm assignment was requested by Batallion 3A.

Gaining access to the east edge of the fire was a problem but initial attack with a progressive hoselay and hand tools made good progress, knocking out the active flames just over an hour from the initial notification. After mop up was complete all mutual aid units were released, leaving Brush 50 and 3A222 to monitor the fire overnight.

The cause was determined to be careless use of fireworks, burning just over 5 acres.

Engine 50, Brush 50, Batallion 50 and Batallion 3A responded to a reported grass fire at an address in Newton. 

On arrival a small fire was burning in sparse grass and bark mulch in front of a residence. The fire was quickly extinguished and all units returned to quarters.


Utility Pole Fire

Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 9:29 AM:

Engine 50, Batallion 50 and Batallion 3A responded to a report of a utility pole on fire north of Newton.

Fire investigation determined the cause was a bird that had been electrocuted by the power lines and fell to the ground, igniting the grass along the field edge. The grass fire extended to the poles, damaging two poles.

Arriving units found what appeared to be a controlled burn in a field with a line around the fire and all units returned to quarters.

Brush 50 and Tender 50 were paged as part of the second alarm assignment to assist at a grass fire in Mendon. High winds had blown the fire out of control and additional units were requested through dispatch.

Shortly after the page for the second alarm was transmitted units on scene were able to gain control of the fire. All Station 50 units were cancelled as they were leaving the station.

Engine 50 was called with the first alarm assignment to assist at a working structure fire in Clarkston. 

The structure was well involved on arrival, prompting a second alarm to be transmitted. A quick exterior attack by Clarkston FF's knocked down the fire which allowed crews to transition to interior operations. All responding companies were held on scene to assist and after extensive overhaul to the structure the fire was declared out. 

Engine 50 was assigned to ventilation for this incident.
