Structure Fire

December 18, 2010 at 6:30 PM:

Fire units from NW Cache County responded to a structure fire in the hills of the Long Divide, approximately 3 miles west of Newton.  Due to the remote location and weather conditions, brush trucks were requested at the time of the initial call.

Brush 50 (Newton), Brush 10 (Clarkston), Brush 130 (Trenton) and administration from Cache County Fire were included on the first alarm.

Brush 50 from Newton arrived in the area and confirmed that the structure was inaccessible to firefighting vehicles.  Fire units from the other stations were cancelled at that time.  Cache County administration continued to the staging area.

Having no means to access the location with a firefighting vehicle and with no threat to other property, the fire was allowed to burn.  With the assistance of the property owner, authorities were transported to the structure by snowmobile for investigation purposes.

One person was injured in the fire.  The injured person was able to leave the scene without medical transport and was taken by family members to the hospital in Logan.

Vehicle Crash

Monday December 6, 2010 at 10:29 AM.

Dispatch received report of a vehicle crash on State Road 23, 1 vehicle rollover with at least one patient.

Responding: Squad 50 (Newton), Squad 130 (Trenton), Ambulance 160 (CCEMS) and Squad 71 (Logan).

Extrication tools were not needed but it did require all hands to safely remove the patients from the vehicle and prepare for transport.

Medical Assist

Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 11:090 PM.

EMS was called to a medical assist in Newton.  Squad 50 (Newton) and Ambulance 160 (CCEMS) responded.

Utility Pole Fire

Saturday November 19, 2010 – 6:56 AM.

Public Safety Dispatch received a report of a utility pole on fire in the area of Cache Junction, south of Newton, and paged Station 50 to respond.

Brush 50 and Brush51 (Newton) responded because the pole on fire was well off the roadway in the hills west of Cache Junction.  Battalion 3A (Cache County) also responded.

Arriving on scene it was determined that no transformer was involved and the pole on fire was part of the high-tension transmission line that runs from Cutler Reservoir into Cache County.

Fire crews waited until Rocky Mt Power arrived and verified that the power was off to the lines. Using a 1” line from Brush 50 a power company employee accessed the the fire with the bucket of his vehicle to extinguish the flames.

When the fire was out all units from Station 50 and Cache County cleared the scene.

Grass Fire

Monday, October 18, 2010 at 3:07 PM.

A permitted burn went out of control north of Clarkston near the Idaho border.  The fire was burning towards wildland fuels in the foothills. 

The landowner called for assistance and continued to work the edge of the fire with a tractor and disc.

Responding on the call are Brush 10, Brush 11, Tender 10, Tender 11 (Clarkston), Brush 50, Brush 51, Tender 52 (Newton), Brush 130, Brush 131 (Trenton), Brush 20 (Lewiston) and Cache County Fire District officers.

The bulk of the responding units have arrived and are working the fire.

Working Structure Fire

Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 8:57 PM.

Units from several stations are operating at a working structure fire in Wellsville.

The initial call for assistance was paged at 7:39 PM.  Firefighters found a residence on fire with a large amount of smoke and flame showing.

After knockdown, operations switched to mop-up.  Additional personnel have been called to the scene for manpower assist from 3 additional stations within the last 20 minutes.

Engine 50 was paged at 8:57 PM and is responding to the call.

Grass Fire

Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 3:16 PM, Cache County.

Brush 50, Brush 51, Tender 50 (Newton), Brush 110 and Brush 111 (Mendon) responded to an address south of Cache Junction on State Road 23 for a report of a grass fire.

Arriving units found that a local farmer had created a line around the fire with a tractor and disc.  The remaining fire was extinguished with brush engines.

Vehicle Rollover

Sunday, September 5, 2010 at 6:06 AM, Cache County.

Squad 50, Engine 50 (Newton) and Ambulance 160 responded to a vehicle rollover on State Road 23 at 3200 North, Cache County.

The vehicle’s occupant was out of the vehicle on arrival.  EMS evaluated the patient and a medical release was signed, the patient was not transported.

Medical units were paged to an address in Newton.  Responding were Ambulance 160 (CEMS), Squad 50 (Newton) and Squad 71 (Logan).

Monday, August 16, 2010 at 6:43 PM – Clarkston:

A fire was reported in a shed behind a residence in Clarkston.  Fire units were dispatched from several stations for the working structure fire assignment.

Responding on the first alarm were Battalion 10, Engine 10, Squad 10 (Clarkston), Engine 130 (Trenton), Engine 50 (Newton), Rescue 70 (Logan), Battalion 3A, 3A220 and 3A224 (CCFD). 

The first due unit struck a second alarm with dispatch which brought Engine 20, Air 20 (Lewiston), Engine 30 (Richmond) and Engine 40 (Smithfield).

Engine 10, Engine 130 and Engine 50 each brought a supply line from hydrants and deployed attack lines to control the fire.  The second alarm engines were used for manpower to handle the multiple hose lines and for overhaul when the fire in the shed was knocked down.

The fire in the shed also ignited hay bales that were nearby.  Once the shed was under control a backhoe was used to spread apart the bales so the fire in the hay could be extinguished with the established hose lines.

Squad 10 and Rescue 70 provided rehab to the firefighters as needed.  Air 20 assisted in refilling the breathing air bottles used to protect the attack teams working in the heat and heavy smoke conditions.

Grass Fire

Monday, August 16, 2010 at 5:39 PM – Cache County:

A fire was reported in the area of Cutler Dam and fire units were paged to respond.  While en-route it was determined that the fire was north of Cutler Dam area, towards the short divide west of Clarkston.

Battalion 10 (Clarkston) arrived at the county line on the Short Divide and discovered the fire was near Plymouth, Utah in Box Elder county.  Cache County units cancelled.

Responding were Battalion 10, Brush 10, Tender 10 (Clarkston), Brush 50, Brush 51 (Newton), Battalion 3A, 3A220 and 3A224 (CCFD).




Traffic Collision

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 1:20 PM.

Medical units have been paged to a traffic collision on SR 23, approximately 1/2 mile south of the Benson Marina road, in 110’s response area.

With multiple patients and varying injuries, additional medical units were requested.

Medical units responding:  Rescue 70 and Rescue 71 (Logan), Squad 110 (Mendon), Squad 50 (Newton) and B160 (CCEMS).

Law enforcement reports that there have been two separate crashes at this location, a motorcycle crash, then a subsequent vehicle crash.

At the time of this post medical units are treating the patients and preparing for transport.

Tender Task Force

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 3:30 PM

Newton fire was paged along with other stations in north Cache County to assist with water supply at a haystack fire east of Franklin, Idaho on Maple Creek Road.

Franklin County units alerted dispatch to the request via a radio call.  Mutual Aid response plans are in place for multiple types of incidents, including water supply needs.

Tender 50 joined water tenders and other support units from 6 other Cache County stations to respond for this assist in Franklin County.

At the time of this post Cache County units are still providing water supply for the mop-up operations at this incident.

Newton fire was paged along with other stations in north Cache County to assist with water supply at a haystack fire on Cannibal Road, Cove area.

Tender 50 joined water tenders and engine companies to protect exposures while the hay was allowed to burn.

Tender 50 returned to the station in the early morning hours of August 5th.




Boating Accident

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 5:00 PM.

EMS units were called to a boating accident on Newton Reservoir.  A watercraft collision had injured 1 person.

Ambulance 160 (CCEMS), Squad 50 and Engine 50 (Newton), Engine 130 (Trenton) and Squad 70 (Logan) were paged to this medical assist.

The patient had been transported to the boat ramp area before units arrived.  That patient was treated and transported to a local hospital.




Vehicle Fire, Endangering

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 10:00 PM.

Dispatch received a report of a backhoe on fire possibly endangering a haystack.

Dispatch had a general location of MP 14 on State Road 23 and dispatched units from Station 110 (Mendon).

Law enforcement officers arrived in the area and an updated address of 4600 North SR 23 was transmitted.  The fire was east of that location towards agricultural property.

With the updated address available dispatch paged Station 50 (Newton) to this incident, that address is in Newton’s first-due response area.

Engine 110 arrived at the updated coordinates and continued along the farm road to attack the fire.  Engine 50, Brush 51, Tender 50 and Brush 110 staged just off SR 23 at 4600 North to be near the scene in case additional water was needed for suppression or possible extension to  the haystack that was reported to be endangered.

No additional water was needed, all units cleared after Engine 110 had controlled and overhauled the vehicle fire.

Medical units are responding to the scene at this time.

Traumatic Injury

Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11:48 AM.

Medical units were dispatched to a possible collar bone fracture suffered by a rider in today’s Little Red Riding Hood bike tour which passed through several of Cache Valley’s communities.

Ambulance 160 (CCEMS) and Squad 50 (Newton) responded.

The patient was transported to Logan Regional Hospital.

Friday, May 28, 2010 – 3:18 PM.

Medical units have been paged to a call for assistance at a Clarkston, UT address.

Ambulance 160 (CCEMS), Squad 10 (Clarkston), Squad 50 (Newton) and Squad 71 (Logan) are responding to the call.

Tender Task Force

Friday, May 28, 2010 – 9:24 AM.

A Tender Task Force Alarm was requested by fire units responding to a working structure fire in a non-hydrant area near Wellsville, UT.

Tender 50 (Newton) was on the 1st alarm assignment for that address and was paged along with tenders from other stations to respond for water supply at the fire.

Arriving engine companies began operations at the scene and determined that the fire could be controlled with the units already on scene.

The remainder of the tender assignment was cancelled.  Tender 50 returned to quarters.

Fire, Other

Saturday, May 22, 20010 at 9:23 PM

Fire units responded to a report of a large fire in the campground area of Newton Reservoir.  Information from dispatch indicated individuals were burning pallets and throwing gasoline on the fire.

Engine 50, Brush 51 (Newton) and Battalion 3 Alpha (CCFD) responded to Newton Reservoir. 

A visible fire near the boat ramp was investigated but it was not the source of the complaint.  Brush 51 and Battalion 3 Alpha  searched the north and west area of the reservoir. Brush 51 located the fire and met with CCSO Deputies who were on scene.

The fire was under control at the time of arrival, all fire units returned to quarters.




Medical Assist

Tuesday, 5/18/2010, 12:44 PM. 

EMS units were dispatched to Clarkston for a medical assist.

Responding were Squad 10 (Clarkston), Squad 50 (Newton) and Ambulance 160 (CCEMS).

Squad 50 was cancelled by Squad 10 personnel.  Ambulance 160 provided patient transport.

Crash with HazMat Spill

Wednesday 5/12/2010.  EMS unites were called to a crash in Clarkston, 1 person injured on first report.

Responding were Squad 10 and Engine 10 (Clarkston), Squad 50 (Newton) and Ambulance 160 (CCEMS).

Command reported additional patients had been located, and one of the vehicles had spilled a portion of its load of pellet-type fertilizer.  Additional ambulances were requested and a HazMat Assignment to clean up the spilled fertilizer.

The HazMat assignment included Engine 50 (Newton), Engine 130 (Trenton), HazMat 20 (Lewiston), HazMat 120 (North Logan) and Hazmat 70 (Logan) and Health Department 1.

The HazMat units from Lewiston, North Logan and Logan were cancelled when it was determined that the clean up could be handled with the engine companies and private resources.

Injured persons requiring transport were taken by ambulance to the hospital.  The spill was cleaned up and all units cleared the scene.

Tender Task Force to Mendon

Fire units had been dispatched to a report of a working structure fire in a non-hydrant area.  Reports from dispatch indicated smoke and flames were visible.

A Tender Task Force alarm was struck by responding units to assist with water supply at the incident, 7561 West 1000 South, Mendon, UT.

On the first alarm assignment for the Tender Task Force, Tender 50 and Tender 52 from Newton responded.

Tender 50 and Tender 52 were released from the incident at 1:39 PM.
