Public Assist–Detector Sounding

Engine 50 responded to an address in Newton for a carbon monoxide detector sounding.

Monitoring equipment found no presence of carbon monoxide. Fire Dept. personnel assisted the home owner with alarm maintenance, then returned to the station.

Working Structure Fire

Firefighters from Newton were called to assist at a working structure fire in Trenton, Utah, Tuesday December 6, 2011.

Medical Assist

EMS personnel were called to an address in Newton for a medical assist.

Newton: Squad 50 (assigned to the working structure fire, released to respond to the medical)
Clarkson: Squad 10 (in place of Squad 50 who was assigned to a fire call at the time)

Logan: Squad 71 (Paramedic response)

Working Structure Fire

Cache County, Utah - November 23, 2011 - Receiving a report of a fire in a shed, Logan City 911 Dispatch paged fire units to respond to a working structure fire at an address near Newton. The call was received at approximately 12:48 PM.

The property owner had noticed the fire and had called 911, then attempted to extinguish the fire while fire units were responding.

Upon arrival firefighters found that the property owner had extinguished all but a small amount of fire in a partitioned storage area of the shed. Firefighters extinguished the remaining fire and checked for extension in other parts of the building.

The fire was accidental and the origin and appears to be electrical in nature. Fire damage to the structure was contained to the area near the point of origin. No injuries occurred to the property owner or firefighters.

11/8/2011 : 5:30 PM : 6350 W 9000 N, Cache County

Dispatch received a radio report from a Cache County Sheriff’s officer of a large straw bale on fire north of Newton. Units from Station 50 were paged to respond.

Brush 50, Tender 50 and the battalion chief of the CCFD responded to extinguish the fire and found a large straw bale in a stubble field, smoldering. The bale was spread apart and extinguished.

Logan 911 Dispatch received a report of a fire in the roadway near 100 E and Main Street in Newton, and alerted Newton Fire to the call of a possible hay bale fire.

Sheriff’s Deputies on patrol in Newton were first to arrive and found a wood, plastic and cardboard structure on fire in the roadway. The deputies removed the structure from the roadway and were able to extinguish the fire without fire department assistance.

Responding vehicles from Newton Fire were cancelled by dispatch.
